In a Job Interview the Questions You Ask Will Set You Apart

Don’t be the job candidate on an interview that asks the basic questions about the company and the job. If you do, you’ll just be more of the same blah blah blah, and they won’t remember you, let alone bring you back for the next round. Be different!
Do a ton of research on the company, its founder or senior execs, the market, their competitors, their annual report, and what past and current employees say about the company. Have you read their press releases dating back 12 months? What stands out?
Go beyond news releases, dig deep. Is it a sweat shop with a toxic work environment or an enlightened and wonderful place to work? What are their top three challenges or opportunities? If they're public traded, did you read the last annual report? SEC 10Q filing? Where did the C-suite execs come from? How long have they been there? What have they been posting on LinkedIn?
If you do your homework diligently you should come up with at least ten powerful, insightful, thought provoking questions that will impress the hell out of them and set you apart from the crowd of other applicants.
And, as a bonus is, if they make an offer, you’ll already know if it’s a company you’d be happy to work for :)
