I am often asked this question and the answer is: I don’t work as a recruiter for employers, I work for the job candidate. I serve as a Job Search Sherpa, helping my clients identify, approach, and land the job they most want; one that provides a high Psychic Salary™.
Here are the differences between me and an independent recruiter:
Me – The Job Search Sherpa
I only work for my job search client
I help my clients ID the job and organization that’s best for them
I create resumes tailored to the specific jobs my client wants to pursue
I create LinkedIn profiles that get my clients noticed
I review interview strategy and conduct mock interviews to build their confidence
I help my clients evaluate and negotiate offers
Independent Recruiters
They work for, and are paid by, the employer and present several candidates for an opening
They naturally have their client, the employer, needs in mind, not yours
Some help with resume writing but for most that’s not their forte
Ditto LinkedIn profiles
They will discuss the role but few conduct mock interviews
They can’t help negotiate offers, it would be a conflict of interest
