Signs of a Toxic Workplace
Dreading returning to work Monday
A boss that screams at you, slams and punches things, threatens you
A lack of trust
“Shooting the messenger”
Passive-aggressive, controlling managers
Sarcasm
Undermining and belittling
Ageism
Sexism
Racism
Ableism
High employee turnover
Malicious gossip
Back stabbing
Co-workers sabotaging projects
Leaving a job isn't always easy, and feeling stuck or trapped is quite common. But here's what one client said, “It took time but I finally left and got a job that while lower in pay is in a much healthier work environment. The absence of fear and stress is so refreshing; you can’t put a price on it.”
Thankfully, more people these days, particularly millennials and Gen Zers, are comfortable having discussions about mental health. People increasingly know how to identify the signs of an unhealthy workplace and a how lack of psychological safety mean impacts one’s overall health and wellbeing. As a result, more workers are refusing to tolerate bosses that are bullies or micromanagers as well as those that belittle and cajole them; and that’s a good thing.
