ID the organization you’re focusing on.
Read all you can find about that organization online.
Build a list of people you have a connection with that work there or use to work there.
Use LinkedIn to find other current or former employees.
Send short emails to them asking for an exchange of emails or better yet a 5-minute call to ask a few questions about working there. Assure them you won’t use their name.
Some will not respond but don’t be discouraged. Getting any inside info will help when you apply for a position there.
Questions to ask to assess the upside and downside of working at that company:
How would you describe the corporate culture? Mission?
What do you like most about working there?
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the C-suite leaders?
What are the current market conditions and competitive landscape?
What is the employee turnover rate?
Are there often opportunities for advancement?
