I Need a Job – Now!

I have been referred to as a career coach, career counselor, career transition specialist, and career strategist. As such, I have helped many people develop and implement a long-term career strategic plan and supported them as they transitioned to a better job or another organization. I have also had clients, particularly lately, say, “I need a job, now!”
Having been in those shoes myself, I certainly get it. Based on current conditions one might have to take immediate action and forego a strategic approach to their career. When bills are piling up and unemployment stretches into months the pressure to land a job and start earning again can be immense.
That is not to say you should take any job that comes along. While applying your ideal job criteria to an opportunity isn’t in the cards, you also need to be careful and read all the terms and conditions of the written offer before accepting it. I have inherited clients that felt so desperate they agreed to some onerous terms. In one case, a field sales person unwittingly agreed to not working for a competitor in their field anywhere in the U.S. for 12 months! Another client had taken a significant amount of commission advances and when he resigned they took legal action to claw most of it back; ouch :(
