A job search can take more time than you hoped for and create stress but with these tips you can get unstuck.

I have had many career coaching clients say the feel stuck in their job or in their job search and have grown despondent. Seeking to escape a toxic workplace or boss can be a challenge. And when you're out of work and not getting any traction with your many applications it can be, well, depressing - I know, I've been there :(

Some of the ways to get unstuck on the path to that next job include the following:

Limit Your Daily Search Time - Set a time for each day to devote 2 to 3 hours, set goals for what you want to accomplish in that time and make a commitment to doing them! Having a process and making it habit will yield positive results as will setting specific goals and tracking their attainment. Lastly, always keep in mind that not being selected for an interview or made a job offer is NOT a rejection of you personally. You just aren't what that organization sees as the best fit for them. In many cases you'd be better off not accepting an offer.

Reassess Your Job Goal - I don't advocate completely abandoning pursuit of what you most want in a job or a career. But having felt the financial pressures of unemployment I fully understand that feelings of desperation can creep in. In that case it's OK to revisit and revise your wish list of job attributes. You might willing to now consider a job with travel or even requiring relocation. Perhaps not ideal but if it pays the bills and provides some level of satisfaction it might be a great step to take.

Accountability - Find a career coach or counselor or mentor that supports what you are trying to accomplish and provide them with your action items and "to dos" with dates. Then check in regularly to report on them. You don't want someone that will beat you up when you fail to reach a milestone which is inevitable - we aren't perfect and life has a way of interring at times with our plans. But support accountability; being accountable to someone else definitely helps in meeting the objective.
